I just finished a coaching session with a lady and learned something worth sharing. She has set up a goal to lose 8 lbs per month, and has arrived at the date that she should arrive at her 'goal weight'. Setting goals is a valuable action step. Setting goals helps us get on track. However, that being said....experience has taught me that setting specific weight-related goals often leads to disappointment. The scale does not always comply! Disappointment leads to giving up.
The scale will often let you down in spite of a banner week. It also offers surprises when we think there will be a weight gain, 'but we got away with it'. Can you relate? The scale is only one measure of success.
My suggestion to her was to reframe the goal by focusing on the 'actions and steps' that will lead to her goal - 8 lbs. per month. She agreed to reset goals around increasing exercising, adding variety to her workouts, eating more vegetables and controlling carbs, and starchy foods.
Lifestyle Truth: SET GOALS AROUND THE ACTIONS THAT LEAD TO THE NUMBER ON THE SCALE GOING DOWN.
